Steve‘s jobs fair wins national award
Steve Reed MP has won a Labour Party Best Practice Award for the jobs fair he hosted in June. A group of Croydon North Labour Party members joined Steve on stage at the Labour Party Conference to accept the award from Deputy Leader Harriet Harman MP and General Secretary Iain McNicol. The jobs fair was a huge success, bringing together more than 150 young unemployed people with over 20 local employers offering jobs, training and work experience. Croydon North suffers from very high levels of youth unemployment, a crisis that has got much worse since the Tory-led Government was elected.
Commenting on the award, Steve said:
“I’m delighted the Labour Party has recognised the hard work that many people put in to make the jobs fair happen. The award shows that, even in opposition, Labour cares about the things that matter to local people. I’m not prepared to see another generation thrown on the scrapheap like we saw under Mrs Thatcher. This is a contribution towards giving young people back the positive future they deserve.”
