Steve led the successful campaign to save Croydon University Hospital from closure, and was able to secure a £20 million investment for a new A&E.

Steve led the campaign that saved Croydon University Hospital after the Conservatives allowed it to go on the closure list. Steve worked with local campaigners and won the support of thousands of residents with a petition demanding investment for the crumbling hospital.

This secured £20 million for a new, state-of-the-art A&E that opened in 2019. Steve also campaigns for fair pay in the NHS, working with the GMB trade union to tackle private contractors who were employing NHS staff on poverty wages and refusing to pay them sick leave.
